Murray Spivack

Murray Spivack (born September 6, 1903 in New York City , New York , † May 8, 1994 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

Spivack began his career in the early 1930s. In 1933 he worked as a sound designer on the two King Kong films King Kong and the White Woman and King Kong's Son . He was later involved in the monumental films Around the World in 80 Days , Spartacus , Cleopatra and The Bible . Very often he was hired for musical adaptations ; here he worked on Rhythm in the Blood , West Side Story , My Fair Lady and My Songs - My Dreams Involved, among others . For the musical Hello, Dolly! together with Jack Solomon he received the Oscar in the category Best Sound in 1970 . The following year he was for Torah! Torah! Torah! Nominated again for the Oscar, this time came away empty-handed.

In addition to his work in the film business, Spivack also worked as a drummer and played in the orchestras of NBC and CBS in the 1920s . As a drum teacher he trained among others Louie Bellson , David Garibaldi and Joe Morello .
