Murvyn Vye
Murvyn Vye (born July 15, 1913 in Quincy , Massachusetts , † August 17, 1976 in Pompano Beach , Florida ; actually Marvin Wesley Vye Jr. ) was an American theater and film actor .
Life
The Yale - graduate Murvyn Vye played Theater on Broadway , among others in the musical Carousel of the role of Jigger Craigin before he played in 1947, his first role in a movie. In the drama Golden Earrings , he played the gypsy Zoltan alongside Ray Milland and Marlene Dietrich . Vye had a minor role in the 1948 western Whispering Smith , alongside Alan Ladd in the title role. In the film adaptation of Mark Twain's A Yankee at King Arthur's Court , Knight Hank, the Terror of the Round Table , 1949, Vye played the role of Merlin , while Bing Crosby played the eponymous Yankee Hank Miller . Vye, who continued on stage, also starred in several episodes in television series such as Perry Mason , Hiram Holliday and Die Unbrechlichen from 1950 onwards .
In 1953, Vye played the Mongol leader Kengtu in the war film Through the Yellow Hell, directed by Robert Wise . This first collaboration with Richard Widmark was followed by another in the same year. In Samuel Fuller's crime film Police Intervene , Vye took on the role of the cynical cop Dan Tiger .
In 1954 Murvyn Vye starred in front of the camera with Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe for Otto Preminger's River of No Return . In the same year, Vye starred in the gangster film Al Capone with Martin Balsam and Rod Steiger . In Bert I. Gordon's children 's film Jimmy and the Pirates , he played the role of Blackbeard . In his last film Andy , 1965, a drama directed by Richard Sarafian , Vye played the supporting role of a bartender .
