The Museums-PASS-Musées (formerly Oberrheinischer Museums-Pass) is an association that was founded on December 14, 1998. The association is based in Basel .

idea

The idea for the foundation goes back to an initiative of the Upper Rhine Conference, a German-French-Swiss joint project in the Upper Rhine region . The different cultures and traditions as well as the coexistence of the citizens in the regions of Southern Palatinate , Baden , Alsace and Northwestern Switzerland should be enriched and brought to life through the association. This trinational project is unique in Europe and was awarded the Prix Territoria in France in 2002 and the Prix Bartholdi in 2017 for its cross-border commitment.

The Union

The organs of the association (board of directors, expert commission and office) are made up of members from Germany , France and Switzerland . Eight people work in the Basel office. 332 museums, castles and gardens in the three countries mentioned took part in 2018. With a museum pass, which is valid as an annual entry ticket, you can visit these museums at no additional cost. In 2017 there were more than 50,000 passes in circulation, and in 2018 over 45,000 due to the good weather. On average, every passport holder visits a museum ten times a year. The museums receive between 55 and 70 percent of the entry price as a distribution. In 2018, the sale of the pass brought in almost five million euros, of which nearly 3.7 million went to museums. The pass is now valid in Lorraine , Alsace and Franche-Comté , in Germany from Lörrach to Mainz and Stuttgart and in Switzerland six cantons are involved: Basel-Stadt , Basel-Land , Aargau , Jura , Solothurn and Bern .
