The Musikkapelle Groß Sankt Florian is a Styrian wind orchestra in Groß Sankt Florian in Austria . The orchestra is organized as a non-profit association .

history

Due to the church-political importance of the place, the high mass celebrated at New Year and Easter was celebrated with musical accompaniment by wind instruments before 1900; this was the responsibility of the school teachers and their assistants. At the beginning of the 20th century, efforts were made to found their own music association, which should meet both ecclesiastical and secular needs.

The founding document of the association from 1905 lies with the district authority of Deutschlandsberg . A first uniform was purchased in 1925. The orchestra took part in the musicians' meeting in Vienna in 1934. In 1953 a fantasy uniform was purchased.

For decades, the musical direction was in the hands of Johann Felber, who passed the baton to his nephew Franz Felber in 1961. The first chairman in 1962 was Johann Ninaus. A new costume, the Styrian suit , was purchased. 32 bands were guests at the district musicians' meeting in Groß Sankt Florian. The spring concert and the request concert became a fixed part of the course of the year from 1968 under the new chairman Franz Loibner.

Recruiting from supporting members was introduced in 1969. The self-built music center was inaugurated in 1974 under the new chairman Johann Kaiser. The new Laßnitztaler costume was purchased in 1976 under the new chairman Oskar Bernhard. At the district musicians' meeting in 1982, 34 bands were guests in Groß Sankt Florian. The music band Groß Sankt Florian took part in the Federal Music Festival in Vienna in 1985 with a show program in the Wiener Stadthalle and in 1987 in the International Brass Music Show in Mollis, Switzerland.

The engagement in the field of “marching music in motion” has enabled numerous participations in international marching music events in Bremerhaven, Bremen and Hanover since 1988. The excellent successes in concert and march evaluations have already been rewarded four times with the Styrian Panther and the Robert Stolz Prize. The chairman Franz Wieser took office in 1989. In 1990 the first recorded music festival of brass music was published.

The Musikkapelle Groß Sankt Florian took part in the Music Show of Nations in the Bremen City Hall in 1992 and went on a concert tour to Geneva in 1993. The following year the wind orchestra took part in the 19th Music Parade of Nations in Hanover. The 1st President Erich Urch took office in 1995. In the same year, she took part in the regional music festival in Meran . The second sound carrier Music was our first love! was published in 1996 with the participation of the Bel Canto choir.

In 2005 the district musicians meeting took place together with the 100th anniversary of the music band Groß Sankt Florian, u. a. with the 1st US Infantry Division Band "The Big Red One".

The music band Groß Sankt Florian was founded in 2009 by Kapellmeister deputy. Robert Orthaber described in his master's thesis.

Gerald Oswald

In 1997 Kapellmeister Gerald Oswald took over the musical direction. Oswald attended the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory in Graz and studied trumpet with Friedrich Körner at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz . In 1978 he joined the Groß Sankt Florian music band. He completed the course for wind orchestra conducting of the Styrian Wind Music Association with Franz Cibulka , Jan Van der Roost and Felix Hauswirth . From 2004 to 2008 Oswald completed an apprenticeship with Thomas Doss at the Vienna Conservatory in the subjects of conducting, arranging and composing.
