Myballoon was a German rock band from Berlin . Most famous single was On My Way from 2000. The band broke up in 2006.

history

The band was founded in late 1996 after bassist Christoph Clemens and drummer Benjamin Sommerfeld had listened to a demo tape by the band's future singer, Tom Lüneburger . She was immediately enthusiastic about his voice. Both had previously played in a seven-piece acid jazz combo, which was about to break up at the time.

Three months later the idea came up to found a rock trio under the name "Myballoon". In 1998 the three won a band competition. Her price was a studio stay. They use this to record their first (officially unreleased ) CD Turned My Way . When they entered the Emergenza competition with the songs in 1999 and ultimately prevailed against the other 1,500 bands from all over Europe, they seemed to have a bright future ahead of them. The first prize was originally the participation in the Warped Tour , as opening act for Ice-T and Die Ärzte . However, the band opted for the alternative: a concert at the legendary rock club Whiskey a Go Go in West Hollywood , where groups like the Doors , The Police and Guns n 'Roses had already performed. The band was given a total of three appearances in Portland, New York and Los Angeles .

In 2000, the preliminary climax of the career followed with winning the ZDF / VIVA Cometen as “Newcomer of the Year”. Her greatest radio success, On My Way , made it onto various rock compilations.

In 2003 the rock trio went on a European tour with the Guano Apes . Shortly before that, they had released their second album Between Here and Away , which immediately made it into the top 70 of the German album charts.

In the almost ten years of its existence, the band played for around 500 shows and at all major festivals such as Rock am Ring , Soundgarden , Southside and Bizarre .

In 2005, after the first test recordings for their third album, their record company refused to work with them again. The band broke up in 2006.

From 2008 the band members are working on their comeback on various musical projects: Singer Tom Lüneburger released the solo albums Good Intentions (2010), Lights (2012) and Head Orchestra (2015). Bassist Christoph Clemens released the album I Wish I Could Hate You in 2008 with his band Me & Meyer .

style

The songs of this classic rock band appeared on a number of rock samplers at their weddings. Her music is characterized by distinctive guitar sounds and solos. The partially soft voice of the singer contrasts with the hard sounds and beats.

Plane crash

On June 24, 2000, the plane that took off from Berlin-Tempelhof and with the band members on board crashed over a wooded area in southern Germany. On this day the band was supposed to play at the Southside Festival in Munich. All three band members survived the crash.
