Grandiflora Gaud. ), Also known as Rehsteiner's forget-me-not , is a species of the forget-me-not genus ( Myosotis ). It is a Central European endemic . The art epithet honors the Swiss pastor and natural scientist Johann Konrad Rechsteiner (1797–1858).
description
With the help of short runners, the Lake Constance forget-me-not forms low lawns with a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. It is a hibernating green hemicryptophyte . The upright stem reaches heights of two to ten centimeters. He is round, bald or upright hairy. The also hairy leaves are one to three centimeters long and lanceolate or oval.
The short, one to two branched inflorescence consists of five to ten flowers. The diameter of the flowers is four to twelve millimeters. The corolla is sky blue.
The flowering period is between April and May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
distribution and habitat
Its previous distribution area included Lake Constance , the lower course of the Rhine to Tössegg , Lake Lugano , the west side of Lake Geneva , Lake Maggiore , Lake Starnberg , Lake Gnadensee , Liechtenstein and the banks of the Ticino . Today around 85% of the population occurs on Lake Constance in the canton of Thurgau , Switzerland , on the Austrian side of Lake Constance west of Bregenz and on Lake Gnadensee in Germany.
The Bodensee forget-me-not grows exclusively on nutrient-poor, clayey sand and gravel soils along shorelines. It is characteristic of the beach lawn flora of the flooded gravel banks of some pre-alpine lakes. It is a character species of Deschampsietum rhenanae from the association Deschampsion littoralis.
Species protection
In 1994 this species was one of the rarest plants in Central Europe with only 2500 specimens . In 1998, new occurrences were discovered at twelve sites, so that today the number is around 25,000 specimens.
In the Red List of endangered plant species in the IUCN was it in 1997 as the world ( "vulnerable" endangered classified). In 2010 it was entered on the IUCN Red List. The Lake Constance forget-me-not is particularly endangered by the regulation of the lakes, algae carpets, bank degradation, construction work, increasing tourism in the nature reserves and competition with other plant species such as the cane grass ( Phalaris arundinacea ), the reed ( Phragmites australis ), the white ostrich grass ( Agrostis stolonifera ), the slender sedge ( Carex acuta ) and the stiff sedge ( Carex elata ).
