The Nünalphorn is a 2385 meter high mountain between the Melchtal and Engelbergertal in Switzerland . It lies in the territory of the cantons of Nidwalden and Obwalden .
Assignment
The Nünalphorn belongs to the Unterwaldner Voralpen and thus to the Lucerne and Unterwaldner Voralpen (subsection 14.III of the SOIUSA classification). Together with the Widderfeld Stock , the Huetstock and the Barglen , the Nünalphorn forms the panorama of the Melchtalerberge , as can be seen from Sarnen and Flüeli-Ranft .
situation
The summit consists of a horn that has a steep edge towards the Engelbergertal to the northeast and southeast. From the west an increasingly steep mat rises almost to the summit, which is marked with a large cross.
The Nünalphorn can be climbed from the Juchlipass ( 2171 m ) to the south via a mountain hiking trail. The Juchlipass can be reached from Engelbergertal or from Melchtal via Rütialp , Stockalp and Nünalp ( 2136 m ). The Nünalp is the highest alp in central Switzerland , where cheese is still produced in summer. The alpine hut was renovated in 2014 and made accessible with a new cable car for material transport. To the northeast lies the Bocki-Rotisand pass ( 2204 m ) between the Nünalphorn and the Widderfeld Stock . From here, the summit of the Nünalphorn can be reached via a climbing route.
Trivia
The Hotel Paxmontana in Flüeli-Ranft was called Kurhaus Nünalphorn from 1896 to 1956 because it offers a very good view of the Nünalphorn.
The third field of the fresco “ Die Landsgemeinde ” by Albert Welti and Wilhelm Balmer depicts the Nünalphorn, but the geographic relationships do not exactly match reality, especially in relation to the representations in the other fields. The fresco from 1907 adorns the hall of the Council of States in the Bundeshaus in Bern .
