action
The investment banker HP lives with his wife Karin, his son Max and the Danish au pair Birthe in a design accommodation on Zurich's Gold Coast . HP's best friend, his boss Philip, his pregnant wife Sue and, unexpectedly, Philip's intern, Gutzler, are visiting for a cozy barbecue evening. HP's goal is a financial deal with his boss, otherwise he'll have to sell his house because of his high debt.
When Philip wanted to break up his affair, the au pair Birthe, during that evening, she asked for a lot of money to keep her silent. That's why Philip demands from HP that he silence the young Birthe, otherwise nothing will come of the deal necessary for HP. At the same time, the intern Gutzler starts an affair with Karin and the evening takes its course. The next day HP is there without money, wife and house.
Reviews
“The debut film demonstrates the dismantling of the beautiful appearance as well as the impoverishment of a society whose wealth manifests itself primarily in outward appearances. Convincingly played experimental set-up that combines entertainment with biting (social) criticism, although the didactic is the weak point: The book repeatedly falls back on clichés, which makes the plot quite predictable in a few moments. "
“As in“ Snow White ”,“ Aftershocks ”also focus on the vices of Zurich's nouveau riche, and Werenfels' film actually looks in many ways like the counterpart to Samir's hip-hop fairy tale. While someone was jetting through Europe all the time in “Snow White”, “Aftershocks” condensed its story into a single evening; If Samir was content with celebrating the hollowness of his figures, Werenfels makes their fragility palpable from the start. The moral that the world of the nouveau riche is built on lies is not particularly original, but thanks to its excellent actors, «aftershocks» manage to bring this rather clichéd subject to life. [...] In view of the top performance, one gladly accepts some of the plot's weaknesses; (...) not all entanglements and twists are equally convincing. But these small flaws cannot tarnish the positive overall impression of Werenfels' impressive cinema debut. "
