Moonlight Shadow is a song by British multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield that he recorded with singer Maggie Reilly . Anita Hegerland , Helen Pepsi DeMacque and Miriam Stockley also sang the song on his later live performances . It's about saying goodbye through unexpected death .
The song is 3:37 minutes long and was released as a single on May 6, 1983 by Virgin Records in Germany. On the B-side is the song Rite of Man . It is the second single from the studio album Crises after the title Mistake , which was only released as a single in Great Britain, Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal and is only on the North American edition of the album.
Commercial win
Moonlight Shadow placed in the charts of the United Kingdom ranked 4th, was in the German language but even more successful, in which it reached the ranks 1 and 2. FIG.

Cover versions
The song was covered several times, first in German by Juliane Werding with the title Nacht voll Schatten . This version appeared in July 1983 on WEA / Mambo (24-9701-7). Michael Kunze wrote the German text, Harald Steinhauer was the producer. The version reached number 13 in Germany and was placed a total of 14 weeks in autumn 1983. A 7 ″ EP was also released in 1985 by the GDR label Amiga (5 56 123), which also contained three other tracks by Werding. Werding appeared with the song twice in the ZDF hit parade ; she was voted first by TED vote on September 19, 1983 and was therefore allowed to play the song again in the following issue on October 17.
1986 followed a version of the Shadows on the album Moonlight Shadows . The cover version of Groove Coverage from 2002 made it to number 2 in the German charts, stayed there for 19 weeks and earned a gold record for over 250,000 singles sold . Likewise the version of the Italobrothers from 2007, who made their breakthrough with that song. In 2005 Luca Noise covered Moonlight Shadow, which was released on record (Noisemaker NM068) and on the compilation Disco Tanz - Many Ways For DeeJays (Noisemaker / Media Records NM0773 CD / DP). In 2019 the singer Sotiria again published a version in German - the cover by Juliane Werding. An electronic cover version by the artist Micast and the singer Kya was also released in 2019.
