Nancy Argenta
Nancy Argenta (actually Nancy Herbison , born January 17, 1957 in Nelson , British Columbia , Canada ) is a Canadian opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Nancy Argenta was born in Canada and grew up in the town of Argenta, whose name she later adopted as a stage name. She studied with Jacob Hann in Vancouver and with Martin Chambers at the University of Western Ontario and graduated in 1980. In the same year she won first prize at the SC Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition . After further training with Jacqueline Richard in Düsseldorf from 1980 to 1981, she moved to London , where she took further daily lessons from Peter Pears , Gérard Souzay and Vera Rosza .
In 1983 she made her debut as La Chasseuresse in Rameau's opera Hippolyte et Aricie at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence . Since then she has been a busy soprano with engagements a. a. in Berlin , Göttingen , New York , Vienna and London as well as the largest opera houses in the USA and Canada. Her repertoire includes the works of Bach , Handel , Mozart , Schubert , Schönberg and Purcell and ranges from works from the 17th century to modern times.
