Napoléon Louis Bonaparte (1804–1831)
Napoléon Louis Bonaparte (born October 11, 1804 in Paris , † March 17, 1831 in Forlì ) was Grand Duke of Kleve and Berg , briefly as Louis II. And Lodewijk II. King of Holland , son of Louis Bonaparte and Hortense de Beauharnais as well Nephew of Napoléon Bonaparte .
Life
At the age of four, Napoléon Louis Bonaparte was appointed Grand Duke of Kleve and Berg by his uncle Napoleon by decree of March 3, 1809 , but the French Emperor himself took over the reign of the Grand Duchy. Formally, Napoléon Louis Bonaparte joined his father at the age of five Abdication on July 1, 1810 as sovereign of the Kingdom of Holland , he was King Lodewijk II until the French annexation of Holland on July 9 and until his abdication on July 13, 1810 .
After the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , he lost the title of Grand Duke on December 1, 1813 .
In 1815, after the Battle of Waterloo and the Restoration by the House of Bourbon , he went into exile . On November 10, 1826, he married his cousin Charlotte Napoléone Bonaparte (1802-1839) in Florence . They remained without offspring.
In 1830, Napoléon Louis and his younger brother Charles Louis , later Emperor Napoléon III, participated in an unsuccessful Carbonari conspiracy in Romagna . In 1831 he died of measles near Forli . Like his father later, he was buried in Saint-Leu-la-Forêt .
He had never given up hope that the Bonapartes would restore rule. This was actually achieved in 1852 when his younger brother Charles Louis was proclaimed Emperor of the French.
