action

Together they rediscover the city and take pictures of Vicky's favorite places. Because the adult woman moves around the world with her father and wants to capture her favorite places in photos again. Bruno notices that Vicky is more to him, but on the last day they were together she made an appointment to meet a waiter from a restaurant. Bruno then insults them savagely.

When he realizes what he's done, he quickly records an artistic video that he projects on the wall of your house. In this he assures her of his friendship and that he will always wait for her when she comes back to Berlin.

background

Erik Schmitt's directing style is based on the stop-motion technique and combines real scenes with rag dolls, plasticine and paper men. Objects are also brought to life and static objects change their shape or move. This results in some imaginatively arranged scenes in which, for example, planes are lifted from the sky with two fingers. Some scenes were used in Erik Schmitt's first feature film Cleo (2019).

The film premiered at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival . The film won various short film competitions, including the Best Short Film and the Audience Award of the Landshut Short Film Festival , the Editing Award , the Audience Award of the Alpinale , 2nd place at the Rüsselsheim Film Festival and the Short Film Award of the Five Lakes Film Festival .

Reviews

The German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) rated the short film as “particularly valuable” and justified it as follows: “Erik Schmitt tells of that double romance in constantly surprising, funny and original animated shots, with arrows everywhere in town appear who lead Bruno to his first meeting with his future accomplice. All of these effects serve the story, which also gains depth because Bruno recognizes his own isolation and self-critically reflects on the arrogance with which he views his fellow men as ignorant. The romance is told without pathos, and so Erik Schmitt can even afford to vividly depict a stab in Bruno's heart without ever appearing pompous. NASHORN IM GALOPP is a masterpiece produced with a lot of love for the medium of film - entirely analogue and yet at the cutting edge. "
