The Rüsselsheim Film Festival is a two-day satirical short film festival that has been held every June since 1994 in the Rüsselsheim am Main Theater . Films that are not older than two years will be shown. The maximum length of the short films shown is 20 minutes. The festival reaches around 1,300 visitors, making it the most important festival for satirical short films in Germany. The 27th Rüsselsheim Film Festival 2020 took place from June 5th to 23rd, due to the hygiene regulations to fight the Sars-CoV-2 virus, as a streaming festival in cooperation with the Kulturserver.de gGmbH foundation . In 2021, the 28th Rüsselsheim Film Festival will take place on June 18 and 19, 2021.

Organizers and sponsors

The Rüsselsheim Film Festival is organized by volunteers from the non-profit association Cinema Concetta Filmförderung e. V. on behalf of the Cinema Concetta Film Funding Foundation. The aim of the foundation is to promote the cultural asset of the satirical short film as an artistic form of expression in a non-commercial sense and to make it accessible to a broad public.

The Cinema Concetta Film Funding Foundation was established in September 1992. The occasion was a plane crash in December 1991 at the Hohen Nistler near Heidelberg, in which the Cinema Concetta film team Martin Kirchberger , Ralf Malwitz and Klaus Stieglitz were killed while filming the film Bunkerlow . The foundation is recognized by the state of Hesse as a non-profit organization.

For its promotion of the medium of film and the enrichment of cultural life in Rüsselsheim, the Cinema Concetta Filmförderung was awarded the City of Rüsselsheim's Culture Prize in 2002. In 2006 the foundation was awarded the foundation of the month of June by the state of Hesse because it makes a significant contribution to cultural diversity in Hesse and the satirical short film days have developed into the most important festival in its genre.

Contributions and procedure

Around 20 films compete for the audience prizes , which are awarded from the proceeds of the endowment capital of the Cinema Concetta Film Funding Foundation. The prizes are endowed with 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000 euros in descending order. The first prize of the Rüsselsheim Film Festival, endowed with 5,000 euros, will be presented together with the trophy “The Sharp Eye”. The massive bronze sculpture symbolizes an eye, the logo of the Rüsselsheim Film Festival.

The short conversations with the filmmakers on stage after their productions have been shown are an essential part of the film days . The award is linked to the presence of the filmmaker or a representative. The audience chooses up to three film favorites from two competition blocks. In addition to the Rüsselsheim Film Days, the winning films from the Rüsselsheim Film Days will be sent on tour as “best-of-roles” throughout Germany.

The film festival is financed by sponsors, income from the events, donations and contributions from sponsoring members.
