The Alpinale is an Austrian short film festival that takes place annually in Vorarlberg . From 1985 to 2003 it took place in Bludenz and from 2003 to 2019 in Nenzing . In 2020 the festival returned to Bludenz.
Programming and organization
On five consecutive days in August, short films are shown - if the weather permits, outdoors - and awarded the Golden Unicorn in several categories by a jury. The purpose of the film festival is to bring newcomers to filmmaking, whether from the professional or non-professional sector, from all countries, but mainly from Europe, together in Vorarlberg. They should make contact with one another, exchange opinions, gain experience and present their films to the audience and discuss the films.
The film festival is run as an association and organized by volunteers.
history
In 1982, the then film amateur Otmar Rützler and the journalist Günther J. Wolf (organizer of the Bludenzer Literaturtage) laid the foundation for the Alpinale. First, young writers and amateur filmmakers came together for a jointly organized competition. Competitions for amateur and young filmmakers were held in the two years that followed. In 1985 the first international film festival for professionally produced short and feature films as well as amateur films was held in Bludenz under the name Alpinale .
The festival was supported by the organization Alpenländische Film- und Autorakademie, founded in the same year, whose main task was the implementation of the Alpinale film festival. After Günther J. Wolf withdrew in 1990, the association reorganized itself under the name Alpinale Vorarlberg.
In 2003 the venue for the festival moved from Bludenz to Nenzing . In 2020 the festival returned to Bludenz.
Award winners
In the categories of children's film, animation film, university film, international film (up to 2008: professional film) and prize of the jury (all jury prizes) as well as audience prize, the main prize Goldenes Einhorn was awarded.
