Eringerfelder Wald-Süd nature reserve

The nature reserve Eringerfelder Wald-Süd is a 211 hectare nature reserve (NSG) south, east and north of Eringerfeld . The NSG is located in the urban areas of Rüthen and Geseke in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2003, the district government of Arnsberg designated the area as an NSG by ordinance. The NSG has been part of the 396 hectare FFH area (No. DE-4416-302) Eringerfelder Wald und Prövenholz since 2004 . The NSG is separated from the Eringerfelder Wald-Nord and Westerschledde nature reserve, designated in 2003 , by the federal motorway 44 . The Pagenholz nature reserve borders directly to the east in the Paderborn district . This NSG also belongs to the FFH area Eringerfelder Wald and Prövenholz .

Area description

The NSG is a large forest complex with species-rich red beech forests . There are orchids in the forest. Grassland and water biotopes such as streams and springs are also located in the NSG. Streams like the Westerschledde sometimes dry out temporarily. Species such as the red kite ( Milvus milvus ), gray woodpecker ( Picus canus ), nightingale ( Luscinia megarhynchos ) and golden oriole ( Oriolus oriolus ) breed in the forest .
