history
There are first traces of human settlement in Nauleis as early as the Bronze Age . Nauleis is originally a square village with a block and corridor . The place was first mentioned in 1361 as Nova Lyz . The place name is interpreted as a settlement on cleared ground . Other forms of the place name were in the course of time: Nuwelyz (1384), Nuwelissow (1406), Naweleyß (1501), Nawgeleyß (1516), Nawleßigen (1535), Nauleis (1551), Nauleiß (1791), Neu Leiß (1791) and Nauleis and Neuleis, respectively, in 1908.
Nauleis originally belonged to the Magdalenenkloster in Großenhain. The size of the place was given in 1406 with 15 hooves. At that time, however, it belonged to the Care Hayn and was administered from there. After the Reformation, it was for a time in the possession of the von Kommerstadt family between 1553 and 1583 , but it soon became the official village of Grossenhain again. Ecclesiastically, the place has always been a parish after Lenz .
On July 1, 1950, the neighboring Altleis was incorporated into Nauleis. On January 1, 1994 Nauleis was incorporated together with Altleis into the municipality of Lenz , which was incorporated into the municipality of Priestewitz on January 1, 1999 .
Culture and sights
Several historical monuments and buildings are recorded in the local list of monuments. Among other things, several buildings in the center of the village on "Straße am Rundling", most of which date from the 19th century, are under monument protection . In addition, a historical stone from the 19th century, an atonement cross and a memorial for the fallen villagers of the First World War are considered architectural monuments.
To the east of the town is the approximately 51 hectare Nauleis dam , which has a storage space of 1.27 million cubic meters. This was only built in the years from 1988 to 1991 northwest of the village and was originally intended for the supply of industrial water to agriculture (irrigation). Today it is primarily used for flood protection, fishing and discharge regulation by raising the low water level.
The local youth club is one of the active clubs in town.
