history

Stauda Inn and Brewery

There are first finds of human settlement in Stauda from the Neolithic Age. At the northern edge of the village center there is a medieval rampart , inside of which a partially charred wooden box is hidden, which suggests that the complex was destroyed by force.

Stauda was originally a street green village with a corridor that was laid out in the area of a Slavic settlement. The village was first mentioned in 1225 as Studowe . The place name is interpreted as "settlement where it is cold" . Other forms of the place name were in the course of time: Studowe (1268), Studow (1378), Staude (1471, 1791) and Stauda (1540).

There have been a few changes of ownership over the centuries. Originally subject to Seusslitz Monastery , the place belonged to Hayn Castle in 1378 . Around 1406 the size of Stauda is given as 7 hooves. At this time there are prayers according to Hayn. From 1551 Stauda, whose size had meanwhile grown to 14 Hufen, belonged to the manor Batzdorf and finally in 1590 became the official village of Großenhain . Stauda was parish church in Strießen from 1539, where the school was located.

In 1960 Stauda was united with the neighboring municipality of Kottewitz to form the municipality of Kottewitz-Stauda , which in 1973 became part of the municipality of Priestewitz.
