history

View of the location of Lenz on a postcard from the Meißner art publisher Brück & Sohn (1955).

There are first traces of human settlement in Lenz from the Neolithic Age . Lenz was originally a street green village with a corridor . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1318 as Theodericus de Lenz . The place name is interpreted as a "settlement where flax is grown" . Other forms of the place name were over time: Lentz (1320), Lyncz (1350), Lencz (1378), Lyncz (1378), das dorff den Lenncz (1496) and Lens (1540).

There have been a few changes of ownership over the centuries. In 1378 the place, the size of which was given around 1406 as 18 Hufen, belonged to Hayn Castle , in 1547 to the town of Hayn and probably from around 1551 to the manor in Döbritzchen . Around 1840 the place had 179 inhabitants. At that time, the village included a forge that was only set up in the previous year, an inn with a distillery in the upper village and a hop mill.

Lenz has been part of the Priestewitz community since January 1st, 1999 .

Culture and sights

Several historical monuments and buildings are recorded in the local list of monuments. Under monument is here, among other things, a baroque hall church in the center, whose origin dates back to the years 1700-1710. Inside you can find an altar and a pulpit as well as a sandstone baptism from around 1600. The organ of the church was created in 1856 by the Dresden organ builder Karl Eduard Jehmlich .

In addition, the parsonage built in 1665, the 19th century railway bridge on the Berlin – Dresden railway line , two stable houses from the first half of the 20th century and a historical stone pavement are historical monuments.

The local group of the volunteer fire brigade founded in 1942 is one of the active associations in the village .
