The Navistal is a 10 km long side valley of the Wipptal in the Tux Alps , which branches off to the east between Matrei am Brenner and Steinach am Brenner . The Navisbach flows through it, which flows into the Sill . At Navis Dorf , the valley forks into two spring valleys through which the Klammbach and Weirichbach streams. The end of the valley is formed by the Lizumer Reckner ( 2886 m above sea level ) and the Geier ( 2857 m above sea level ), the two highest peaks in the Tux Alps.
The valley is designed entirely as a V-valley and is the only one of the side valleys of the North Tyrolean Wipptal to have a flat valley floor anywhere. Only the sunny side is populated, on the shady side the forest extends to the Navisbach. The most important settlements are Ausserweg , Unterweg and Oberweg , which together with other groups, scattered houses and individual farms make up the municipality of Navis . The valley is accessed by a state road (L228, Naviser Straße).
The Navistal was possibly used as a pasture and hunting area as early as pre-Roman times, under the Romans the first cattle farms and alpine pastures were established, which were only inhabited in summer. The valley was not settled permanently until the 12th century with the establishment of Schwaighöfen .
