The Nawigator XXI is a training and research ship belonging to the Akademia Morska in Stettin .

history

The ship was built at the Gdanska Stocznia “Remontowa” shipyard in Danzig . The construction contract was signed on November 12, 1996. The keel was laid on March 14, 1997, the launch on May 24, 1997. The delivery took place on January 20, 1998. The godmother of the ship was Jolanta Kwaśniewska , the wife of the then President of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski . The ship's design came from the Navicentrum shipbuilding office in Wroclaw .

commitment

The ship is used by the Akademia Morska in Szczecin as a training ship for its students, who can learn how to navigate , work on ship engines and use the equipment on deck on board . It is also used for research. Among other things, it participates in the the WWF initiated Poland finding lost at sea fishing nets (→ ghosts network ) and the Institute for Applied Ecology (IfAÖ) in Rostock used for research trips.

The ship is at sea for around 300 days a year, primarily in the Baltic Sea . Numerous university students are trained on the ship.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the vessel by a four-stroke cycle - eight-cylinder - diesel engine (type: Sulzer 8S20D) 1120  kW power . The engine was built under license by ZPM H. Cegielski in Poznan .

The ship is equipped with various sonar systems and echo sounders and is equipped for the use of an ROV .

There is space on board for eleven crew members , six scientists and 30 students.

The ship is approved for sea areas up to 200  nautical miles off the coast and inland seas such as the Baltic Sea. It can stay at sea for around 20 days, covering 4,000 nautical miles.
