Necrowretch is a French death metal band from Valence that was formed in 2008.

history

Six months after Vlad bought his first guitar at the age of 19 and saved the first songs on his computer, he started looking for a drummer. After this was found and the band was founded in 2008, the demo Rising from Purulence was released in 2009 . When rehearsing in front of friends, Florent “Amphycion” Brunet-Manquat was also present, who was impressed by the duo and joined them as bassist. Performances followed as a trio, as well as another demo in July 2009. This made the Belgian label Detest Records aware of the group, which released the demos on audio cassette . In 2010 the band played at Killtown Deathfest in Copenhagen . The EPs Putrefactive Infestation (2011) and Now You're in Hell (2012) were released via Detest Records . With the drummer Desecrator Necrowretch played as the opening act for the future label colleagues at Century Media Asphyx in March 2012 in Essen . Then Necrowretch reached a record deal with Century Media. Within ten days, the group recorded their debut album Putrid Death Sorcery in Brussels with Phorgath from Enthroned in the summer of 2012 . The album contains nine new and two old demo songs that have been re-recorded. Drummer Mörkk was present during the recordings. The sound carrier was released in 2013. The band played with the drummer Desecrator at the Leipzig Deathkult Festival in 2013 . In 2014 Necrowretch performed at Party.San .

style

According to Olivier "Zoltar" Badin in the band biography on centurymedia.com , the guitarist and singer was influenced to make music by the death album Scream Bloody Gore . In addition, Vlad said he was influenced by his brother. He has been listening to Iron Maiden since he was seven and discovered Painkiller when he was 12 . After that he approached more extreme metal and listened to black metal before he discovered the first Death album. According to Vlad, the release of Putrid Death Sorcery made it possible to break away from comparisons with autopsy and nihilist . They also tried to incorporate Merciless , Grotesque , South American bands and Marduk as influences. The album is about a former priest called "The Necrowretch" or "The Priest of Doom" who goes around the world to pervert souls instead of saving them. In an interview with Kai Krings from Metal Hammer , Vlad stated that the band was influenced by death and black metal bands. Especially at the beginning one was influenced by groups like Nihilist, Repugnant or Dismember . He is now classifying Necrowretch between Grotesque, Merciless and Marduk. According to Krings, Vlad writes all riffs and lyrics as well as drums and bass characters. However, Vlad occasionally utilizes the ideas of the other band members. Vlad also continued the content of the debut album: It was about a former priest who had been seduced by the evil that turned him into a demon spider. He is carrying out an unholy inquisition on all living and summoning the dead to set them free. In his review of Putrid Death Sorcery , Robert Müller from Metal Hamer wrote that the band played retro death metal. The band mixes a few unusual elements, but these are not really new either. The music reminds him of Merciless, which is Swedish death metal with thrash metal elements and black metal vocals. However, the songs would all sound the same, which is what they have in common with Impaled Nazarene .
