Nelly Miricioiu (born March 31, 1952 in Adjud ) is a Romanian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Nelly Miricioiu, named after Nellie Melba , made her debut in 1970 as Queen of the Night in the opera Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Bucharest . She then became a member of the ensemble of the Brașov Opera . In 1981 she moved to London . She sang at the Scottish Opera and at the Edinburgh Festival in 1982 . In 1982 she made her debut at the Royal Opera House in London as Nedda in Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo .

Above all, she made a name for herself as an interpreter in partly forgotten works of bel canto , in operas by Gaetano Donizetti , Gioachino Rossini , Vincenzo Bellini , Saverio Mercadante , Giovanni Pacini or Giacomo Meyerbeer .

She has appeared at the Paris Opera , in the Milan Scala , the Vienna State Opera , in the Arena of Verona , in San Francisco , Dallas , Philadelphia , Madrid , Rome , Montpellier , Hamburg , Frankfurt am Main , at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well the Berlin State Opera and in Australia .
