Neri Corsini (cardinal, 1624)
Neri Corsini (also Nereo Corsini or Nerio Corsini ; born August 1, 1624 in Florence , † September 19, 1678 in San Casciano dei Bagni ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman, bishop of Arezzo and cardinal .
Life
He was the son of Filippo Corsini and his wife Maddalena Machiavelli. One of his nephews was later named Clemens XII. Pope. Another nephew was the future Cardinal Giambattista Patrizi . Neri Corsini was the great-uncle of Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini and great-great-uncle of Cardinal Andrea Corsini . He was born on October 14, 1647 Cleric of the Apostolic Chamber and President of the road system in the Papal States .
On August 12, 1652, he was appointed titular archbishop of Tamiathis , dispensing with the fact that he had not yet received his ordination and maintaining his position in the Apostolic Chamber. He was ordained bishop on September 1, 1652 in the Roman church of Santa Maria degli Angeli by Cardinal Fabio Chigi , Bishop of Imola ; Co- consecrators were Ranuzio Scotti , former Bishop of Borgo San Damiano , and Carlo Carafa della Spina , Bishop of Aversa . Later he was nuncio in France.
Pope Alexander VII elevated him to cardinal priest in the consistory of January 14, 1664 . Neri Corsini received the cardinal's hat and the titular church Santi Nereo ed Achilleo on March 15, 1666. From May 10, 1667 to May 7, 1670 he was a legate in Ferrara. He took part in the conclave of 1667 , which Pope Clement IX. chose. He was also a participant in the conclave of 1669/1670 , from which Clement X emerged as Pope. On February 8, 1672, Corsini was appointed Bishop of Arezzo with the personal title of Archbishop . He took part in the conclave of 1676 , in which Pope Innocent XI. was chosen. He gave up the office of bishop of Arezzo on March 7, 1677.
In 1651 he was accepted into the Florentine Accademia della Crusca .
Neri Corsini died on September 19, 1678 in balneis Sancti Cassiani . He was buried in Florence in the chapel that Andrea Corsini had built in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine .
