Netanel
Netanel is the name of ten people in the Old Testament .
etymology
The name Netanel ( Hebrew נְתַנְאֵל) is a sentence name and is composed of the subject אֵל el "God" and the predicate 3rd person. Sg. נְתַן netan "he gave". The name can therefore be translated as “God gave” or “God's gift”.
The names Elnatan (with the same meaning when subject and predicate are interchanged) can be compared, as well as Jonathan , Netanja and Netanyahu (all three “ YHWH has given”), as well as the short form Natan .
The Septuagint gives the name as ναθαναηλ nathana'el . Hence the name Nathanael , which occurs in the New Testament, is derived .
Netanel, son of Zuar
In Num 2.5 EU Netanel, son of Zuar, is mentioned as a member and leader of the Issachar tribe . In Num 1,8 EU he is a helper of this tribe in the mustering of Israel in the Sinai desert. Finally he is mentioned in Num 7.18 EU , where he brings the gifts for the altar consecration of the tent of revelation for the tribe of Issachar . According to YHWH's instructions, the leader of a tribe should offer his gift for twelve days in a row ( Num 7.11 EU ). It is the turn of the Issachar tribe on the second day. His gift consists of ( Num 7,19-23 EU ):
- for the food offering: 1 silver bowl (weight: 130 shekels), 1 silver bowl (70 shekels), both filled with fine wheat flour, mixed with oil
- for the burnt offering: 1 golden bowl (10 shekels) with incense, 1 young bull, 1 ram and 1 year-old lamb for the burnt offering,
- for the sin offering: 1 billy goat
- for the salvation offering: 2 cattle, 5 rams, 5 goats and 5 one-year-old lambs
Netanel, son of Jesse
In 1 Chr 2,14 EU Netanel is the fourth son of Jesse and an older brother of King David . His other brothers are Eliab, Abinadab , Schima, Raddai and Ozem, his sisters Zeruja and Abigajil . The first book of the chronicle thus extends the report from 1 Sam 16 EU . There it is mentioned that David had seven brothers, but only Eliab, Abinadab and Schima are named by name. The others appear in 1 Sam 16.10 EU , but remain nameless, including Netanel.
Netanel, priest
In 1 Chr 15.24 EU Netanel is mentioned as a priest together with Schebaniah, Joschafat, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaja and Eliëser. He played a trumpet when King David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.
Netanel, Shemaiah's father
In 1 Chr 24.6 EU Netanel is the father of the scribe Schemaja . He writes down the division of priests into service classes made by King David.
Netanel, son of Obed-Edom
In 1 Chr 26.4 EU Netanel appears as the fifth oldest son of Obed-Edom . His brothers are Shemaiah, Josabad, Joachim, Sachar, Ammiël, Issachar, and Pëulletai.
Netanel, official
In 2 Chr 17.7 EU Netanel is mentioned next to Ben-Hajil, Obadja, Zechariah and Michaja as an official of King Joschafat . From this they are commissioned to teach the people in the cities of Judah.
Netanel, Levite
In 2 Chr 35.9 EU Netanel is a brother of Konanyas and Schemajas. Together with these two and with Hashabiah, Jëiël and Josabad he is a ruler of the Levites. At the Passover celebration under King Josiah they donated 5,000 animals for Passover offerings and 500 cattle.

In the list of people living in mixed marriage in Esr 10.18-44 EU , a Netanel is also mentioned ( Esr 10.22 EU ). Along with Eljoënai, Maaseja, Ishmael, Josabad and Elasa, he belongs to the descendants of Paschhur.

In the list of priests and Levites in Neh 12.1–26 EU , a priest is named Netanel ( Neh 12.21 EU ). He belongs to the Jedajas family.
Netanel, Levite
In Neh 12.36 EU , Netanel is a Levite who, with his brothers, accompanies the inauguration of the city wall of Jerusalem under Ezra . His brothers are Zechariah, Shemaya, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai and Judah. Their lineage is traced back over six generations (Jonathan, Schemaja, Mattanja, Michaja , Sakkur , Asaf ) to the psalm poet Asaf.
