Fortified church

The Gothic hall church of Neithausen, first mentioned in 1448 , was initially built without a tower. In the course of the fortification around 1500, it received a mighty defense tower above the choir and a second tower on the west side. The choir was also covered with a 2 meter thick wall and separated from the nave by a wall. Access from the ship was secured by a gate with portcullis . At the same time the church was surrounded with a bering . The church castle is accessed via a gate tower that was later used as the keeper's apartment. The west tower of the church was replaced in the 19th century by a polygonal end with an organ gallery. There is a pulpit altar on the east wall . In 1770 it was built by Johann Folbarth, a sculptor and painter from Schässburg . The Gothic vaults and other details have been preserved in the choir . These include the sacrament niche , the sacristy portal and painting fragments that have not yet been interpreted.

The organ was probably built by Emanuel Hradek in 1850. It is located on the west gallery. The following inscription is on the gallery parapet: “Dedicated to the memory of Michael Lingner junior by the parents Michael and Anna Lingner and his wife Sofia. Died in 1874. Renewed in 1933 by the adjuvants. "

As part of an EU project, 18 fortified churches , including the fortified church in Neithausen, are to be renovated and made accessible for cultural tourism.
