The New Synagogue Ostrów Wielkopolski is a synagogue in Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland. It is a listed building and is a cultural monument .

history

The foundation stone was laid on April 7, 1857 by the rabbi from Kępno , Mojżesz Stössel (German: Moses Stössel). Between 1857 and 1860 the sacred building was built according to plans by the architect Moritz Landé in the Moorish - Byzantine style. The synagogue was damaged in World War II .

description

The building has been designed in an eclectic style , combining classicism and Moorish construction elements. The arched windows of the building are classicistic, whereas the tower tops are decorated in a tempietto-like and Moorish style with stalactite decor. The facade was enriched with reliefs , cornices , tracery and domes . The similarity with the Moorish synagogues that Adolf Wolff z. B. were created in Ulm .

The interior of the sacred building, arcades , galleries and Torah shrine were structured with horseshoe arches and designed in a blue and gold color combination.
