The New Canal is a river in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in southwest Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It creates a connection between the Stör waterway that drains into the Elde and the Sude via other bodies of water .
In Banzkow, the Mühlengraben bypasses the lock in the course of the Stör waterway. From the Mühlengraben, the New Canal branches off to the right for the first few meters with pipes and initially flows in a southerly direction. The Sielgraben and the Kunstgraben flow into the Banzkow district of Jamel on the left.
After crossing under the Autobahn 24 at Tuckhude, the water of the peat bog trench is absorbed on the right-hand side, then the Ludwigsluster Canal branches off , which takes over the previous river code number 593644. Under the code number 59362, the New Canal continues to flow to the Funkamtsiedlung in Wöbbelin , where state road 71 to Neustadt-Glewe is crossed. A little later the course turns in a westerly direction. At Neu Lüblow the Beck, which flows from there as Rögnitz , is led under the New Canal. After Jasnitz the Büdnergraben joins on the right side. The Hamburg – Berlin railway crosses the watercourse. On the eastern outskirts of Strohkirchen , the canal merges into the Strohkirchener Bach , which flows into the Sude at Kuhstorf and carries the water away towards the Elbe and North Sea.
The New Canal flows through the Lewitz and reaches the Griese area at Strohkirchen . The Lewitz is characterized by amelioration measures and is traversed by numerous, mostly dead straight drainage ditches, some of which are in connection with the canal in the catchment area, run parallel to it or are led through pipes or culverts below it.
