Neufuchsin (also Basic Violet 2 ) is a cationic triphenylmethane dye that is dissolved in alcohol ( ethanol ) and used in microscopy and histology as well as in industry for staining . Neufuchsin has a red color in solution that turns slightly purple.
use
Neufuchsin is used as a dye for leather, paper and polyacrylonitrile .
In microbiology, it is used to dye acid-fast microorganisms, for example in the Ziehl-Neelsen dye . It can also be used as a Schiff's reagent for the elucidation of aldehydes.
In microscopy it is also used to color cellulose and lignin . Cellulose is colored red by Neufuchsin, structures containing lignin are colored purple. Neufuchsin, as part of an ACN staining solution, which, in addition to Neufuchsin contains astrablau and chrysoidin , can make all structure- forming components of plant cells distinguishable in color under the microscope.
