Nine Days of a Year ( Russian Девять дней одного года / Dewjat dnei odnowo goda ; scientific transliteration Devjat 'dnej odnogo goda ) is a Soviet film from 1962.

action

Scientists conduct philosophical debates about the ethical problems of atomic energy and generally about the effects and side effects of scientific discoveries. Most obsessed by the scientists is the quiet, somewhat reserved, highly talented Dmitri Gusew, who puts his life in danger out of a sense of duty, who continues his teacher's research after he dies of a radiation overdose and so on, in his work for the benefit of mankind , gives meaning to his life. His friend Ilya Kulikov is of a more complicated nature. Life is much harder for him. Of course, his skepticism and his clever distance seem to be just as typical of the young scientist as Dmitri's self-sacrifice.

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international film : The formally more conventional film by the Russian Michail Romm presents itself as a discussion piece, but remains a hymn of praise for scientists who do not spare their own lives for the sake of "progress".
  • Evangelischer Filmbeobachter (Review No. 118/1963): In its broad and seemingly artless design and in its strangely blurred message, the film - viewed on its own - is only able to captivate little, but it is an almost historical, typical document of the post-Stalinist “thaw “Period and therefore of interest to the attentive observer.
