Alexei Vladimirovich Batalov
Alexei Wladimirowitsch Batalow ( Russian Алексей Владимирович Баталов ; born November 20, 1928 in Vladimir ; † June 15, 2017 in Moscow ) was a Soviet and Russian actor , director and screenwriter .
Life
Batalow was born into a family of actors. His father was Vladimir Batalov , the brother of the actor Nikolai Batalow, who died young . However, Alexei grew up in the family of his stepfather, the writer Viktor Ardow . Batalow graduated from the MChAT theater school in 1950 and became an actor like his parents. He began his career as a stage actor at the theater of the Soviet Army and then switched to the MChAT troupe, where he worked from 1953 to 1956.
His breakthrough came in the film in 1954 with Iossif Cheifiz ' A large family and received this in common with the rest of the ensemble cast of the Best Actor Award at Cannes . During the thaw period he developed into one of the most successful Soviet film actors. In 1956 he played the revolutionary Pavel Vlasov in a film adaptation of Maxim Gorki's The Mother ; a role that his uncle Nikolai Batalow had played in the 1926 film adaptation . From 1957 Alexei Batalov devoted himself entirely to film and worked for the Lenfilm studios in Leningrad . Under the direction of Cheifs he appeared in the Chekov films The Lady with the Dog (1960) and In the City of S. (1967). For The Lady with a Puppy , he was awarded the Jussi Prize for the best foreign actor. Batalow was mostly seen in the role of a modern, morally upright and socially responsible Soviet man. Among the highlights of his acting career are Mikhail Kalatosov's The Cranes Pull (1957), Mikhail Romm's Nine Days in a Year (1962) and Vladimir Menshov's Moscow Will Not Believe Tears (1979).
In 1960 Batalow made his directorial debut with the Gogol film The Coat . Together with Iossif Schapiro , he directed the film Tibul defeated die Dickwänste in 1966 and in 1973 he was the director of the Soviet-Czechoslovak coproduction The Player .
Since 1975 he has taught at the Gerasimow Institute for Cinematography (WGIK), in 1979 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1984 his book Schicksal und Handwerk was published . Batalov was married, he lived and worked in Moscow .
He received several state Soviet awards, including twice the Order of Lenin (1967 and 1989) and the State Prize of the USSR in 1981 . In 1984 he was awarded the Bulgarian Order of Cyril and Methodius . In 2002 he received an honorary Nika ; In 2007 he was honored with the special prize of the Moscow Film Festival for his life's work .
