Neuseser Glatzen (also Neuseser Glatze ) is a vineyard in the Franconian region . It is located in the district of Dettelbacher hamlet Neuses am Berg in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location and geology

The vineyard extends in a wide strip to the north and northeast of Neuses along the KT 31 district road , which is oriented towards the course of the Main . Neuseser Glatzen thus forms the southernmost vineyard along the so-called Langenberg at the beginning of the Volkacher Mainschleife . Further north, the vineyards of the Escherndorfer and Köhler Fürstenberg sites are already in the Volkach community area . The Nordheimer Vögelein and Sommeracher Katzenkopf vineyards are separated by the Main in the northeast .

Neuseser Glatzen covers an area of about 70 hectares (2004), although the cultivated area has decreased slightly since the 1990s (1993: 80 hectares). The Glatzen vineyards are mostly oriented to the east, more rarely on slopes to the northeast. The steep slopes have an incline of 30–60%. Next to the Escherndorfer Lump, Neuseser Glatzen is one of the steepest locations in the growing area. The location is part of the major site Volkacher Kirchberg in area Volkacher Mainschleife . Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner are mostly grown there on shell limestone and Lettenkeuper soils . There is an observation tower in the middle of the vineyard.

history

location

The history of the Neuseser Glatzen is closely linked to that of the village. Wine was already being grown in Neuses in the early Middle Ages . The wine reached the region from what is now France as early as the 7th century by Frankish settlers . It was grown for personal use and was traded with. In the 13th century, wine was also grown on the steep slopes of the Langenberg so that a coherent wine-growing area was created between Astheim and Neuses.

The rulership of the village in Neuses was divided between two lords in the Middle Ages. The Margraves of Ansbach introduced the Evangelical Confession in their part, the Würzburg part remained Catholic. To regulate the coexistence in the two halves of the village, a village regulation was created in 1763. In it, the harvest crime was seen as particularly punishable. “The tufting of grapes and tree branches in, before and after autumn” was strictly prohibited. The establishment of so-called hedge inns was also regulated .

With the land consolidation , the vineyards had to be merged into individual layers. In the implementation of the Wine Act of 1971, all locations were combined to form the single location "Glatzen", whereby the originality of the name made the difference. The vineyard was formed from a total of 15 individual layers. In addition to the “Vorderer” and “Hinterer Glatzen” vineyards, these included vineyards on the “Steig”, the “Hölle”, the “Urles” and the “Döllberg” and others.

Origin of name

The name Neuseser Glatzen has its origin in a corridor . The more recent literature suspects a location designation behind the name, which goes into the geographical conditions. Accordingly, the prefix Glatz- in Wendish refers to a large stone or boulder. The Slavic Wends that settled on the Mainschleife in the early Middle Ages may have brought the name with them. The original name led to the founding of a balding club in Neuses (with annual baldness awards), which in 1981 entered into a cooperation with the Schlüchterner Glatzkopfverein.
