New Lyme Township is located south of the geographical center of Ashtabula County in the extreme northeast of Ohio, is about 35 km to the north from Lake Erie , borders the townships in a clockwise direction: Lenox Township , Dorset Township , Cherry Valley Township , Wayne Township , Colebrook Township , Orwell Township , Rome Township, and Morgan Township .

The township is administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of three elected members. Two people are elected in the year after the presidential election and one in the year before. The term of office usually lasts four years and begins on January 1st. There is also a township clerk (secretary), who is also elected for a four-year term in the year before the presidential election. His term of office begins on April 1st.
