The Niżnie Rysy (German Denesspitze ) is a mountain in the High Tatras with an altitude of 2430 m npm on the Polish - Slovak border.
Location and surroundings
Below the summit lie the Dolina Rybiego Potoku in the west (Poland) and Dolina Białki in the east (Slovakia).
Neighboring peaks are the Rysy , which is separated from it by the Przełęcz pod Rysami mountain pass , and the Żabi Szczyt Wyżni , which is separated from it by the Ciężka Przełączka mountain pass . The Niżnie Rysy is the third highest mountain in Poland.
etymology
The name Niżnie Rysy can be translated as Niederer Rysy . In the past, the name Denesspitze after Franz Dénes was also common.
Flora and fauna
Despite its height, the Niżnie Rysy , like the higher Rysy, has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The Niżnie Rysy is on no marked trail. However, it is accessible to climbers with a permit from the administration of one of the national parks . The shelters Schronisko PTTK nad Morskim Okiem and Schronisko PTTK w Dolinie Roztoki are suitable starting points for an ascent .
