Nothing is forever is the title of a song by the German band Extrabreit that was released as a single from the album Jeden Tag - Eine Nacht in 1996 . It is a duet with the German entertainer Harald Juhnke .

background

In 1993, Extrabreit and Hildegard Knef re-recorded their song For me, it's red roses rain from 1968. The recording was included on the Hotel Monopol album and was the first single to be released from it, reaching number 35 in the German single charts .

For the follow-up album, singer Kai Havaii and guitarist Stefan Kleinkrieg wrote the song Nothing is forever . Since they had planned to do something with Juhnke for a long time, they asked if he would be interested in working with him. The song was played to Juhnke, he liked it, and he said yes. However, he originally had the idea that the band could record his song Barefoot or Patent Leather with him.

The recording of the song took place in “Conny's Studio” in Wolperath . The music video was shot in black and white by Jo Heim . In addition to the version contained on the album, a live version of the song (length: 2:47 min.) And the song Viel zu blond ("Scharff-Mix", 3:45) were published on the single, which is only available on CD .

The text of the song can be understood as an allusion to escapades of both individual Extrabreit members and Juhnkes:

Text example:

High on the precipice as usual,
we dance on the rope, a cigar in our mouth
Nothing is forever, and nothing is free
One for love and one for art
Nothing to deny and nothing to regret
We are what we are, and we remain true to each other

Ultimately, however, Juhnke's alcohol problems proved to be a hindrance for the single. She missed entering the charts while the album climbed to # 65. Another obstacle was that the TV broadcaster Viva , which had still supported the band in 1994, was of the opinion that the group was too old and did not broadcast the video.
