Captain Horn
Käptn Horn (born August 29, 1955 in the priory near Hagen as Gerhard Sperling ) is a German musician, composer, lyricist, performance artist and painter.
biography
In 1978 Horn was a founding member and namesake of the Extrabreit group . He himself worked as a drummer. After the first LP Horn left the group and gave several solo appearances in his hometown of Hagen . He then recorded some songs on the UP Records label.
In 1982, he took in Hamburg on "pilot Popular Music" (now " pop course ") of the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg in part. During this contact course he met other musicians and founded the group Pepita . Together with the group, a record deal with the company WEA came about. In Hamburg he also met the former Udo Lindenberg guitarist Karl Allaut . He sang along in his a cappella band Kater Carlo and the West Wind that goes to the heart . For Kater Karlo he also wrote a German version of the Drifters classic Fools fall in Love , which was released as a single by RCA, with Träumer sind sweet .
An LP, funk music with German lyrics, is recorded together with George Kochbeck , Jens Fischer and Gerry Brown as studio drummers in the Kotten Studio in Bielefeld . Some of the tracks come out on sampler projects, others he later publishes in his own production.
Two years later, Horn returned to Hagen and founded the Käptn Horn Quartet , which separated again in 1986. Then Horn joined an artist community of painters and musicians and recorded the LP "Schule des Vergessens" with them. When the group broke up, Horn withdrew.
The new "Potato" project only came to the public in 1995. There a story about the development of the fictional character "Potato" was sung in 20 songs. The original potato performance showed multimedia in the classic sense, with slide projectors and a costume show lasting 90 minutes.
In 2019 Käptn Horn produced a single and self-published it on his new music label "hottentotten music".
Online theater
In 1998 Gerhard Sperling produced an online theater . A piece specially written for this purpose was performed simultaneously on a Hagen and Dortmund stage in 1999 . The scenery and the action of the other stage were shown on a screen in the background and actively included in the play of the local environment. After this project Horn developed the system further and initially suppressed any intention to continue with the music.
