Amen is the title of the tenth studio album by the German band Extrabreit , released in 1998 .

background

Extrabreit had released their last album with Every Day - Every Night in 1996, with which they also had a chart success. The album reached number 65 on the German music charts . The singles released from the album ( CVJM and Every Day - Every Night ) could not achieve this success; the song, Nothing is Forever , recorded together with the entertainer Harald Juhnke , narrowly missed the chart entry.

In 1997 guitarist Tom Schwoll left the band, to which he had been a member since 1996. Singer Kai Havaii and band founder Stefan Kleinkrieg decided to go to the recordings of a last album without a second guitarist and then to dissolve Extrabreit.

The group recorded the album in October and November 1997 in Thommy Hein's recording studio in Berlin - Kreuzberg , with Hein also taking on the production . The band developed the pieces in the studio, working with more system and technology than at the beginning of their career. The arrangements for the strings of the songs Get out of my head, and eyes closed wrote Aaron Glast, they were recorded by the Schill Quintet. In the booklet of the CD, a song with the title Give me again the feeling was mentioned , for which the quintet was also involved, this song can be found under the title Again on the track list and on the CD.

The CD , released on March 30, 1998, finally contained twelve songs, from which Verdammter Rote Mond was released as a single. The maxi CD of the song contained the songs Schnelles Pferd and Please don't choose anymore , which were not released on the album .

With the release of the album, the group also announced their departure: A sticker attached to the CD case provided information about the dates of the “Amen Tour '98” and titled the appearance planned for September 19, 1998 in the Berlet Hall in Hagen , the band's hometown, as a farewell concert. In the booklet, Stefan Kleinkrieg thanked all “ex-extra widths from '78 to '98 (20 years is enough).” In an interview, Kai Havaii commented on the reasons:

“It has a bit to do with what you said earlier - escaping“ classification ”. Of course we always wanted that, but we never made it. We were always just the “NDW” band, and that made it impossible for us to move and to move something, because we only ever had this label on our foreheads. And we are a bit too good to become our own oldie band in the long run. "

reception

Marcus Schleutermann wrote for Rock Hard that it was clear from the start that Extrabreit “would not set any new standards in terms of hardness with their farewell album”. However, the fact that they "wanted to be so soft and with extremely penetrating refrain repetitions to force the pop appeal in their mostly banal compositions" was not. In terms of the text, Kai Hawaii is "surprisingly one or the other nakedness", as shown by the "dull" ass licking. That is "really a shame" because the band can not stop me with anything . Out of my head and my autobiographical home, I have never been to three "really great rock songs with great hit potential" that have the level of "the strong comeback album" Every day - every night achieved, "if not even outbid". That saves Amen “of course not from mediocrity”, because “for a 12-track long player” “this yield is clearly too meager”.
