Nick Knatterton's Adventure (Subtitle: The Robbery of Gloria Nylon ) is a German fictional film in black and white by Hans Quest . Werner P. Zibaso's screenplay is based on the comic stories of the same name by Manfred Schmidt . In the Federal Republic of Germany the film was released on January 15, 1959.

action

Nick Knatterton has the reputation of being the true master of all detectives, which is due to the fact that he, like Sherlock Holmes at one time , can combine razor-sharp and, if need be, strike even sharper. His secretary Trudchen Taste is a great help to him, who not only adores her boss, but also repeatedly attracts negative attention by spreading stupid stories. Nick Knatterton is always on hand when a criminal case is considered unsolvable, as was the case in the most recent one:

The well-protected and pampered daughter of the millionaire Lucius Xaver Nylon, owner of the respected company United Synthetic Fiber AG, has been kidnapped. Behind the act is the attractive gang boss Virginia Peng, owner of the less elegant Alibi bar, supported by the crooks Tresor-Otto and Bobby Schnieke. The trio also has two not to be underestimated opponents of the size of a wardrobe, the freight forwarders Max and Hugo, who always endeavor to steal their fat prey from their underworld colleagues .

In a case as sensational as that of the Gloria Nylon, the press naturally has its hands in the game. Eddie Schulz is the mad reporter who happens to get wind of the crime. Because he has his eye on the beautiful millionaire's daughter, he is happy to be tied up in her presence. So he is right up close when Nick Knatterton brings the tricky criminal case of Gloria Nylon to a good end in his inimitable way, which helps him to write a spectacular story for his newspaper.

song

The song sung in the film Oh, Nick Knatterton! has the shape of a fast foxtrot . The text is by Walter Brandin and the music by Friedrich Meyer (i.e. not by Willy Mattes , who contributed most of the music to this strip.) The first four lines of the refrain are:

Oh, Nick Knatterton! Oh, Nick Knatterton!
Every crook trembles at your smile alone;
Just one shot and a hundred and ten bandits are gasping!
Oh, Nick Knatterton! Oh, Nick Knatterton!

Reviews

“The Schmidt caricature series by super detective Knatterton translated back into a feature film that tries to be a crime grotesque. Hans Quest (director) handled this joke with a rather rough hand. Now and then a successful gag. "

“A gaudy and funny ridiculous film about the detective Nick Knatterton. Not a big film, but a hearty and lasting pleasure from the age of 16. "
