Nick Mangold (* 13. January 1984 in Centerville , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the center . He played in the National Football League (NFL) exclusively with the New York Jets .
Career
college
Mangold already played American football in high school , but was also a successful wrestler and athlete . He has received several awards from his school for his athletic achievements. In football he was used in various positions both in defense and offense . After graduating from high school, Mangold got a place at Ohio State University and played for their football team from 2002 to 2005 as a center. In the freshman year he was initially a substitute behind the starting center of the Ohio State Buckeyes . In the second year of his studies, he was able to take over the regular player's position due to an injury and held this position until 2005. Mangold played four bowl games with his team . His team won all games. In 2002 he and his team won the national college football championship .
NFL
Nick Mangold was drafted 29th in the first round of the Jets in 2006 . Already in his rookie year he was able to establish himself as a starter in the position of a center. With his quarterback Chad Pennington he managed to move into the play-offs in the same year , but where they failed early on the New England Patriots 16:37. Pennington, who was only able to play nine games due to an injury in 2007, left the Jets after that season and was replaced by Brett Favre . Mangold retained his regular position. The Jets won nine of their 16 games, but did not make it into the play-offs. In 2009, Mark Sanchez took over the position of starting quarterback and the Jets qualified again for the play-offs. The team from New York City only failed in the AFC Championship Game at the Indianapolis Colts at 17:30. Before the new season began, Mangold signed a new seven-year contract with the Jets. The 2010 season, which started shortly after, was as successful for Mangold and the Jets as the last one. First, Mangold was elected to the Pro Bowl and reached the play-offs with the jets. There they penetrated again into the AFC Championship Game and failed this time at the Pittsburgh Steelers with 19:24.
On February 25, 2017, Mangold was fired after 11 seasons with the Jets and ended his playing career only a year later on April 17, 2018.
Honors
Mangold played six times in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season, and was voted All Pro three times .
