Nicolae Teclu

Nicolae Teclu (born October 18, 1838 in Brăila ; † July 13, 1916 in Vienna ) was a Romanian- Austrian chemist and architect .

From 1888 until his retirement in 1910, Teclu was Professor of General and Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Technical Chemistry at the Commercial Academy in Vienna and invented the Teclu burner in 1892 .

Examples of Teclus work

Teclu researched combustion , the shape of flames and explosions: for example, he compared the performance of different light sources with the help of a radiometer and researched the combustion of luminous gas , a gas mixture containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide . In addition, he determined the explosion limits of gas mixtures (air with hydrogen, luminous gas, swamp gas or acetylene) using an apparatus designed by himself . Teclu developed a number of demonstration devices for lecture purposes. He showed the effects during combustion, the evolution of hydrogen when sodium reacts with water, the electrolytic splitting of water or the formation of solid carbon dioxide . He also built an apparatus for producing oxyhydrogen by mixing hydrogen and oxygen. For the laboratory, he designed an air pump, devices for regulating gas flows, for determining carbon dioxide and for gas development, as well as for the simple collection of water produced by the combustion of hydrogen or hydrocarbons. He also published works on inorganic chemistry and gas flows.
