Bas-Uele ( dt. Bas = Nieder , in German atlases mostly Uelle , Belgian-French Uele, Franco-French also Ouélé ) is a province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the capital Buta .
geography
The province is located in the northeast of the country and borders the Central African Republic in the north, the Haut-Uele province in the east, Tshopo in the south and Mongala and northern Ubangi in the west .
history
When the DR Congo was founded, the area of today's Bas-Uele was in the Orientale province . This was dissolved in 1962 and Bas-Uele became its own province for the first time, but Orientale was restored in 1966. According to the constitution of 2005, this should be divided again into four provinces. However, the administrative reform was postponed several times and canceled in 2011, but finally implemented in 2015 and thus raised Bas-Uele to a province again.
Healthcare
The situation in the health sector is precarious. According to reports from the World Health Organization , the plague, or at least a plague-like epidemic, broke out in Zobia in 2005 and claimed 57 lives .
