history

The village of Niederraden emerges from a clearing settlement , which was named Adenhain in 1149 in a confirmation document from Pope Eugene III. was first mentioned in a document as the property of Maria Laach Abbey . With a document dated June 19, 1321 Niederraden was transferred to the Rommersdorf Abbey . During the Reformation the village was taken over by the County of Wied, and in 1546 the inhabitants of the village had to convert to the Protestant faith at the behest of Count Johann IV zu Wied. Niederraden became one of nine villages in the parish of Honnefeld. On August 31, 1595, Ober- and Niederraden became part of the Lower County of Wied, based in Altwied .

Niederraden was mainly characterized by agriculture and cattle breeding. Through the court order introduced in 1664, the Counts zu Wied came into possession of all estates within Niederradens. In 1806 the County of Wied came to the Duchy of Nassau , where Niederraden was part of the Heddesdorf office in the Ehrenbreitstein administrative district . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Niederraden was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia . The village there belonged to the mayor's office in Anhausen in the Neuwied district in the Koblenz administrative district . This became part of the newly founded Rhine Province in 1822 . In 1856 the school in Niederraden was closed due to the low number of schoolchildren, and from then on the local children attended the school in Oberraden.

After the Second World War, Niederraden belonged to the Rhineland-Palatinate Office of Rengsdorf. In 1968, the Verbandsgemeinde Rengsdorf emerged from this office . As part of the territorial reform in Rhineland-Palatinate that took effect on March 17, 1974, the municipality of Niederraden was incorporated into Oberraden .
