The Niederspreer pond area and Kleine Heide Hähnichen is by far the largest nature reserve in terms of area in the Görlitz district in eastern Saxony .

The 2014 ha nature reserve (see list of nature reserves in Saxony , NSG no. D 13; according to the list of fauna-flora-habitat areas in Saxony - state registration no. 27 E: 1876 ha) is in the north-west of Neusorge . With a multitude of ponds, it is embedded in a heather landscape .
