Georgewitzer scale
The Georgewitzer Skala ( Upper Sorbian Korečanska skała ) is a rocky valley of the Löbauer water north of Löbau between the localities Georgewitz and Oppeln . Due to its geomorphological peculiarities and its diverse natural environment (natural deciduous forest communities), it was designated as a nature reserve with the same name and a size of 34 hectares as early as 1961 . The border of the predominantly wooded nature reserve forms a sharp transition from forest to field.
geology
The Georgewitzer scale was created over a length of approx. 1.3 km by the erosive effect of the Löbauer water as a deeply cut, south to north directed, gorge-like rock valley ( skala = Slavic name for rock ). This type of breakthrough valley is more common in Upper Lusatia , particularly in the Upper Lusatian region (cf. Gröditzer Skala , Lausker Skala ). The geological parent rock, the West Lusatian granodiorite or the two-mica granodiorite , was eroded over thousands of years by the erosion process. The geological subsoil is mainly covered by nutrient-rich loess loam and river gravel from the Vistula Ice Age. The valley has steep slopes, rock faces and crevices, the Löbauer water has a natural, block-rich stream bed. The wooded rocky slopes on both sides of the stream rise from 210 m above sea level. NN in the valley bottom up to a height of 240 m above sea level. NN and go with a moderate slope into a plateau.
ecology
A variety unterschiedlichster semi-natural forest communities , such as linden rich English oak-hornbeam forests , hain book rich sessile oak-beech forest and grove Mieren - alder -Ufersaum characterize the scale. Kingfisher , small woodpecker and gray wagtail can be named as special features of the avifauna . Hollow larkspur , dark lungwort , lily of the valley and chickweed occur as protected plant species due to the weakly alkaline influenced granodiorite weathering soil of the basalt mountains.
history
The Bielplatz ( Bielplatz Bellwitz ), a Slavic section wall that was built around 1000, is a cultural monument of the Georgewitzer scale. The strada antiqua , an old Saxon trade route , led past Georgewitz via Göda (near Bautzen ) to Jauernick-Buschbach (near Görlitz ) and on to Silesia . Merchants passing through had to pay their toll here at the Alte Schanze , a still recognizable earth wall of Slavic origin with early German settlement, which was built around 1100 .
The masonry mill , first mentioned in 1425 , was built below the settlement . After a robbery attack in 1807, the grain milling operation was stopped and the mill property was sold. Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher , who set up a field camp here in the battle against Napoleon in 1813, is said to have lived in the brick mill from May 23 to 26, 1813. The Rittersprung is the most legendary and therefore best-known rock of the Georgewitzer scale. According to legend, around 1800 (?) A landlord who chased a maid from Bellwitz on horseback in order to kidnap her to his infamous castle fell saddled into the depths. The maid is said to be hiding behind a tree on the rock. The landlord pursued them further, could no longer bring his horse to a stop in time and fell down the rock with a shrill scream, which should still be heard today.
The supraregional Lausitzer Schlange hiking trail in the Löbau– Zoblitz section leads east along the nature reserve.
