The Niederwürschnitz Christmas Mountain is a mechanical Christmas mountain in the municipality of Niederwürschnitz in the Erzgebirge district .

Emergence

In 1892 the Niederwürschnitz Christmas Mining Association was founded in Niederwürschnitz in the Ore Mountains . The aim of the five founding members was to build an oriental-mechanical Christmas mountain. The Christmas mountain showed 58 biblical pictures with moving figures on 43 square meters. The 395 figures were self-carved and 290 of the figures were posable. The Christmas mountain at that time was exhibited for the last time in 1948.

Christmas mountain now

In 1992 the remains of the mountain were secured and restored by Niederwürschnitzer Heimatfreunde. The Christmas mountain that can now be seen shows 48 biblical images with 410 carved figures, 138 movable and 54 buildings on 26 square meters. The pictures depict the events of Christmas, the life of Jesus Christ from his birth to his crucifixion and resurrection .
