Nikola Mitkov

Nikola Mitkov ( Macedonian Никола Митков; born December 18, 1971 ) is a North Macedonian chess player and coach. He has been a grandmaster since 1993 .

Life

Mitkov, who lives in Chicago , is active as a chess trainer. With '' Chess Education Partners '' he teaches parents of schoolchildren chess so that they can pass it on to the children.

Chess successes

With the Macedonian national team, he has participated in ten Chess Olympiads since 1994 . With 52 points from 101 games, his balance is positive. In six of these Olympiads he played on the top board. He also took part in the 2001 World Team Championships and six European Team Championships between 1997 and 2009.

In January 1994 he won a category 7 tournament in Nice . In April 2002 he won the Macedonian individual championship in Gevgelija. At the 8th HIT Open A in February 2003 in Nova Gorica he was split first. In March 2003 he won the 10th International Open in Sélestat . In November 2003 he won the Lucerne Open in Lucerne and in March 2004 the Kirchendorfer Weekend Open in Burgdorf near Bern. In July 2004 he won the 19th International Open in Ferrol . In August 2005 he won the Martinovsky Memorial , an invitation tournament in Bolingbrook, Illinois . In March 2008 he won the Open in Aguascalientes , Mexico.

In Portugal he played for Boavista Porto , with whom he took part in the European Club Cups in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and in 2000 he received an individual bronze medal in Neum for his result of 5 out of 7 on the first board. His Macedonian club is Kisela Voda Skopje , with whom he became the Macedonian team cup winner and team champion in 2002 and also took part in the European Club Cup. He also played club chess in France, in the United States Chess League (2008 and 2009 for Chicago Blaze ) and in the Spanish team championship (1997 for EM El Olivar Zaragoza ).

Well-known chess games by Mitkov are his victory against Wladimir Kramnik at the U20 European Youth Championship in 1990 in Arnhem and a draw in 2005 against Hikaru Nakamura at the HB Global Chess Challenge in Minneapolis , who opted for Parham's attack .

His Elo rating is 2479 (as of October 2018), making him fifth in the Macedonian Elo ranking, which he last topped in 2008. His highest rating to date was 2587 in January 2001.
