Nikolai Ivanovich Platonov

Nikolai Ivanovich Platonov ( Russian Николай Иванович Платонов ; born March 20 . Jul / 1. April  1894 greg. In Novy Oskol , † 1. December 1967 in Moscow ) was a Russian flutist , composer and university lecturer .

Life

Platonov acquired his first piano skills from his mother as a child . He also played violin , clarinet and flute and played in the school orchestra . In 1915 he graduated from the Alexander Classical High School for boys in Korotscha . He then began to study law at Moscow University . In addition, he graduated from 1916-1917 at the Moscow Conservatory, the flute class of Wilhelm Kretschmann . After his mother's death in 1918, he dropped out and returned to Novy Oskol. There he worked as a teacher at the city's first music school and played in the military orchestra . In the summer of 1919 he served in the Red Army .

In 1922 Platonov returned to the Moscow Conservatory and resumed his studies in AN Alexandrov's composition class and WN Zybin's flute class. After graduating in 1927, he became a soloist in the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater and, from 1930 to 1931, in the new large symphony orchestra of the all-union radio .

Platonov began teaching at the RabFak of the Moscow Conservatory in 1924 while still a student . In 1933 he became a lecturer at the Moscow Conservatory itself (in 1945 appointed professor). In 1931 he developed a method for learning to play the flute. This became the textbook Die Flötenschule in 1933 , which was reissued 9 times (most recently in 1999) and is still the main textbook for aspiring flutists in Russia. He became known as a composer for his numerous études for flute with piano, which were repeatedly printed from 1937 to 1991, for pieces for soprano , flute and piano, for sonatas for oboe with piano and for trumpet with piano, and for a poem for French horn with piano and a concert for trombone with orchestra. In 1938 he composed the opera Leutnant Schmidt .

From 1942 Platonov taught at the Moscow Gnessin Music Academy and at the Gnessin Music Teachers Institute . JN Dolschikow and MI Kaschirski were Platonov's students. In 1957 he was with his dissertation way to the championship on the flute to the doctor of humanities doctorate. In 1965 he became an Honored Artist of the RSFSR .

The children's art school in Nowy Oskol bears Platonov's name.
