Nikolai Karl Gustav von Baranoff ( Russian : Николай Евстафьевич Баранов (фон Барангоф); born November 22, 1825 in Dubno ; † January 29, 1903 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian-Swedish nobleman , lord of Lobachev and Dobryn ( major in Poland ) and Lieutenant General in the Imperial Russian Army .

Life

Nikolai Gustav began his military career in the page corps in Saint Petersburg and was transferred as an ensign to the Preobrazhensk body guard regiment in 1844 . In 1856 he was appointed wing adjutant and promoted to colonel in 1859 . In the same year he took over the command over the 2nd Infantry - Training Battalion . From 16 November 1860 he commanded the bodyguard of the second Zarskoye Seltsky- Protect -Bataillons and was on 30 August 1864, Major General à la suite transported and provided special services for the Tsar Alexander II. In 1865, he led the 2nd Guards Infantry division for special operations. In 1875 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Guard Infantry Division, which was led from the Balkans into the Russo-Turkish War in 1877 . In this war, he commanded the left flank of Ruschuk - Front . The last assignment he was in command of the 35th Infantry Division was as Lieutenant General before he left in 1884. He died on January 29, 1903 in St. Petersburg and was buried in one of the Alexander Nevsky cemeteries at the Alexander Nevsky Monastery .

Origin and family

Nikolai Gustav came from the old Russian-Swedish noble family Baranoff . His father was the Russian Lieutenant General Moritz von Baranoff (1790–1845). His younger brother was the Russian lieutenant general Alexander von Baranoff (1837-1905). Nikolai married Alexandra Baroness von Prittwitz (1838-1918), they had no descendants.
