Nikolaus Thomsen

Christian Nikolaus Theodor Heinrich Thomsen (born December 21, 1803 in Schleswig , † December 22, 1872 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Thomsen was born the son of a teacher , trained at the cathedral school and moved to Kiel University in 1822 to study theology and philosophy . He later switched to the University of Berlin , where he graduated in 1828. He then took over an apprenticeship at the deaf-mute institute , which he held until 1832. In 1832 he received his doctorate in philosophy from Kiel University . He was then hired as a private lecturer the following year. He finally passed his official theological examination in 1835, and although he was therefore a clergymanwas allowed to work, he initially did not take on such a position. In 1841, the University of Kiel appointed him an honorary doctorate in theology and an associate professor of the same. Thomsen was promoted to full professor of church history there in 1844, and from 1860 he was also active as a secret church councilor.
