Nina Arsenault (born January 20, 1974 in Beamsville, Ontario ) is a Canadian performance artist , journalist and former prostitute .

life and work

Arsenault grew up on a trailer park in Beamsville, Ontario. She has two master's degrees. Temporarily she worked at York University as a lecturer in acting .

Arsenault realized she was a trans woman in August 1996 . She began a gender reassignment process that she financed by working as a webcam actress, stripper, and prostitute.

Up until 2007, Arsenault wrote a column for Toronto LGBT magazine fab commenting on transgender issues.

Arsenault made appearances on the television series Train 48 and KinK , as well as in the television movie Soldier's Girl . In The Jon Dore Television Show , she had a cameo in the episode Manly Man .

In November 2007, Arsenault appeared in the one-act Ladylike . The show she wrote, The Silicone Diaries , and toured Canada with, received critical acclaim. In 2010 she appeared in the autobiographical piece i was Barbie .

As part of the 40 Days and 40 Nights performance , Arsenault spent 40 days searching for spiritual experiences in 2012 , with the last eleven days open to the public. Among other things, she whipped herself while sitting on an exercise bike . In 2013, during the performance Lillex , she lived for five days with the artist Poppy Jackson in a large white box with windows that gave the public a glimpse. In the same year she went on a world tour with the New Zealand performance group MAU . Under the direction of Lemi Ponifasio she took part in the play The Crimson House .

In the field of photo and video art , Arsenault has worked with artists such as Bruce LaBruce , John Greyson , Jordan Tannahill and Istvan Kantor . The works have been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art and at New York University , among others .

Arsenault was a regular guest speaker at North American universities and at conferences such as Moses Znaimer's Ideacity . She campaigned for the rights of trans people in various organizations.

Arsenault's encounter with Tommy Lee , who initially showed an interest in her but fled when he learned of her transsexuality, attracted media attention. In 2012, Arsenault announced that they had had an affair with Luka Magnotta ten years earlier .

In February 2019, Arsenault wrote on her Facebook page that her computer had been hacked and she was homeless .
