Nissan Shatai Co., Ltd. is an automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Hiratsuka , in which the Japanese company Nissan has a 50.01% stake. The rest is in free float. Nissan's majority stake is more recent.
history
In May 1937 the company was renamed Nippon Kouku Kogyo Co., Ltd. founded. In July 1941, it merged with Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. (founded in November 1939) to Nippon Kokusai Aircraft Co., Ltd. In February 1946 the name was changed to Nikkoku Kogyo Co., Ltd. , while operations expanded to include the manufacture of rail vehicles and automobile bodies. The first bus body is produced in November 1946. Three years later, the above two activities were merged into Shin Nikkoku Kogyo Co., Ltd. outsourced. The years 1941 and 1949 are regarded by Nissan Shatai as the founding years.
In 1951, the first relationship with Nissan was established to start production of the Nissan Patrol at the Hiratsuka plant. The company has been listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since October 1961 .
Further renaming of the company followed in January 1962 ( Nissan Shatai Koki Co., Ltd. ) and in June 1971 ( Nissan Shatai Co., Ltd. ).
In April 1970 the one millionth copy was produced. Five million vehicles were produced by August 1980. Twelve years later (June 1992) there were already 10 million units. In October 2007 a total production of 15 million vehicles was reached.
In March 2001, high-volume production was relocated from the Kyoto plant to the Shonan plant.
